Engineering - Chemical, Process
Chemical engineering is the distinct discipline that combines physics, chemistry and mathematics. It is a professional training that endeavours to produce useful or valuable things from the raw materials or the purposeful combination of certain chemicals. It is closely related to the exciting new field of nano-engineering which is an attempt to control and manipulate atoms and molecules on the smallest scale – the molecular level. Chemistry and chemical engineering are the remnants of the medieval times’ alchemy which believed that gold, silver and other precious metals can be produced from the base metals such as iron or bronze by treating them to chemical processes. If alchemy had succeeded, some kings would have been very rich by producing gold from ordinary metals. Other than research, chemistry is mainly involved in large-scale commercial chemical processes such as oil refining, medicine manufacturing (generic and branded drugs) and in the production of plastics, to name a few.
